Beginning at 12:00 Monday, April 16th, the City will have large roll off dumpsters available at the public works department parking lot located at 730 S. Main Street to accommodate your trash and salvage items. There will also be a designated area for metal salvage and brush pile for tree limbs and yard debris.
The County transfer station has provided us with a list of restricted items that you will NOT be allowed to bring to the city’s dumping location. These restricted items are: Boats, tires, oil, gas tanks, burned trash residue, liquids and household hazardous waste, such a s paint, batteries, chemicals etc.
Household hazardous waste, such as paint, batteries, chemicals, etc. are collected daily at no charge at Franklin County Noxious Weed Dept. 2017 S. Elm Street, Ottawa, KS, 785-229-3170 Monday thru Friday 7:00-3:00. The transfer station will open to the public on Friday, April 27th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday, April 28th from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm for free dumping.
If you are unable to take your trash and salvage to the public works department roll off area, you may call city Hall at 883-2296, Mon-Fri 8:00-12:00, 1:00-5:00 p.m. and request assistance. The city staff will compile a list and on Saturday, April 21st, volunteers will pick up trash and salvage items that have been placed on the curb. We’d like to limit curb service to residents who are unable to deliver their items to the dumpsters provide at the public works parking lot. Our volunteers are also asking that you please have your items out to the curb either Friday night or early Saturday morning (no later than 8:00 a.m.) to help expedite the process.
